From the state of Georgia comes a peach of a hardcore release, the 4-track ‘Forsaken‘ EP from Safety Switch. The band is clearly a younger, up and coming act as it appears their first offering was the Demo ’17 release from earlier in the year. There’s very little information about the band available online but their Facebook page makes mention of their guitarist Ethan just recently graduating high school.
The music of Safety Switch on Forsaken is densely constructed hardcore with some leanings into sludge and southern doom. It is a short outing with a playing time of less than five minutes. The songs are short bursts of pummeling savagery but not in a “fast” sense of the word. With massive guitar riffings, crushing rhythms and gravelly, aggressive vocals, this is no bullshit, straightforward music.
If sludgy hardcore is your thing then this is right up your alley. It had me hearkening back to the days of oldschool ‘core, which is a good thing of course. If you are inclined to go further and check it out, you can do so via the Bandcamp embedded stream below. Once there, it and the previously mentioned Demo ’17 (with what sounds to be a different vocalist) are both available as Free Downloads.
