Ghastly Sound – S/T – Tracklisting
2.Where the Ghosts Hide
Ghastly Sound debut S/T EP comes across like the bastard offspring – Torche, Red Fang, Helmet and even Deftones at times. These guys don’t mind merging different sounds and genres with each of the 4 songs on offer here.
Opening track – The Track – is a fast-paced Sludge/Stoner Metal noise-fest where the band impress from the start. Heavy bass sludge driven grooves are the main order of business with the hardcore style vocals of TJ adding a mean pissed off edge. The song is pure fun. 3 minutes of loud, angry pissed off Sludge/Stoner Metal fun.
Second track – Where The Ghosts Hide – offers a more direct psychedelic noise rock sound with the fast-paced riffs having a slight 90s Alternative Metal vibe. TJ revels in his role with some cool Sludge/Stoner based vocals.
The final two tracks – Cape Buffalo and Cuttlefish – carries on the distorted experimental Sludge/Stoner Rock riffs though the band start adding some classic Deftones atmospheric ideas. Ghastly Sound have an air of rebellion around them. The EP doesn’t know what it wants to be – Sludge, Stoner, Psych, Noise Rock or even Alt Metal. Though that’s great thing about this EP. It’s an amalgamation of those sounds but Ghastly Sound manage to create their own sound. It’s addictive and I want to hear more.
It’s such a damn shame the EP is only on for 13 minutes as it’s highly addictive. I hope a full length album coming later this year as Ghastly Sound need to build upon this HUGE EP. Ladies and Gentlemen – Meet your favourite new band.
